Job Description

Malaria Coordinator – Country office, Harare

Reporting to the Malaria Project Manager, this job is needed in order to facilitate and manage the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Community-Based Enhanced Malaria Prevention and Control Project in the assigned geographical areas within the framework of National Strategic Plan for Roll Back Malaria (NSP-RBM). The Malaria Coordinator provides specialist guidance and support on malaria programming in line with the approved PA annual plan and relevant policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Accountabilities:

Operations management

Overall responsibility for effective and efficient management of the malaria project consistent with the project management cycle. A good understanding of Plan procedures, systems and guidelines.
Initiate and maintain regular, minuted project team meetings.
Reporting in line with the donor contracts and compliance requirements.
Ensure monitoring systems are in place and that project reviews are carried out periodically in conjunction with the team, local stakeholders and project partners.
Travel as dictated by the need of the project.

Program development

Facilitate community empowerment and capacity building program activities.
Contribute to the development and updating of the Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) strategy.
With the support of the Gender Advisor, facilitate gender assessments, reviews and audits to assess ways to continually integrate Gender Equity and Inclusion in malaria programming.

Program management

Ensuring all projects are compliant with donor requirements and Plan procedures.
Ensure appropriate administrative, financial and logistical Plan systems/procedures are in place, maintained and adhered to so that all support functions are carried out effectively and efficiently.

Other key deliverables

Responsible for capacity development and training of all staff on malaria.
Carry out representation with other NGOs, UN agencies, local and national government bodies, donors and other relevant parties.
Be the project contact with press and media, in discussion with CD, and capable of giving media interviews.

Child Protection

Promotes and abides by internal policies and procedures including but not limited to: Child Protection Policy; Code of Conduct; mandatory reporting responsibility.
Maintains external networks and has professional contacts that contribute to increasing knowledge and professionalism in implementing effective child protection procedures and practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge:

A degree in Health Promotion, Public Health or equivalent qualification.

Additional qualifications and experience in project management, monitoring of BCC activities, report writing and social/community development skills will be an added advantage.

Ability to co-ordinate holistic and integrated project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation

First-hand knowledge of Zimbabwe National Malaria Control Programme.

A minimum of 3 years practical experience working with rural communities.

Experience of donor liaison.

Experience in financial, budget and administrative management or related issues.

Knowledge of strategic planning processes and theories of child-rights programming.

Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and implications to community development.

Class 3 or 4 Driver’s license and willingness to ride a motorbike.
