Role Summary
The Loan Accountant / Portfolio Accountant will oversee loan accounting operations, portfolio monitoring, disbursement controls, reconciliations, compliance, and portfolio quality management.
Key Responsibilities
Verify loan applications, KYC documentation, completeness, and creditworthiness.
Ensure loan disbursements comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Monitor adherence to loan eligibility criteria and disbursement policies.
Track loan disbursements and repayments.
Ensure accurate data capture into the Loan Management System.
Calculate and record interest income and loan-related fees.
Reconcile loan portfolio reports and accounting records.
Coordinate with employer deduction platforms and stakeholders.
Monitor arrears and calculate loan loss provisions.
Prepare ageing reports and identify high-risk or non-performing loans.
Generate portfolio quality and recovery reports.
Process write-offs, reschedules, and interest reversals.
Maintain IFRS 9 compliant provisions.
Coordinate recovery efforts with debt collectors and legal service providers.
Maintain collateral registers and security documentation.
Conduct branch visits and performance reviews.
Facilitate staff training and onboarding.
Ensure compliance with AML/CFT requirements and RBZ reporting obligations.
Review and update credit policies and loan documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Risk Management, or related field.
Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CIS, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
Minimum of 4–6 years’ experience in loan accounting, portfolio management, or microfinance operations.
Strong understanding of lending operations, IFRS 9, and RBZ regulations.
Experience working with Loan Management Systems and accounting software.
Strong analytical, reporting, and reconciliation skills.
