Job Description

Livestock Development Training Manual Editor - Crisis Modifier Project: Welthungerhilfe
Deadline: 8 May 2020

About
Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest, privately-held, non-denominational and politically independent German non-governmental organisations in the area of development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in cooperation with local partner organisations, its task is to contribute to improved income and nutrition for the poorest rural populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Zimbabwe almost continuously since 1980. Currently the organisation together with its partners has projects in 5 Provinces. Sector focus is on Food and Nutrition security including WASH, and when necessary Emergency response.

Together with Community Technology Development Organization (CTDO) and Agricultural Partnerships Trust (APT), Welthungerhilfe is implementing a programme titled, Matabeleland Enhanced Livelihoods Agriculture and Nutrition Adaptation (MELANA) under the UNDP managed Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund ZRBF001-2016. The programme aims to build the absorptive, adaptive and transformative capacity of households, communities and governmental institutions in Nkayi, Bubi, Umguza and Umzingwane districts in Matabeleland North and South of Zimbabwe. One of the key components is support for livestock survival. The Crisis Modifier component of the project in partnership with the Department of Veterinary services and other stakeholders has since developed a new sustainable model of Acaricides supply and management.

Further effort has been to develop a Livestock Development Committee training manual focused towards transforming knowledge, attitudes and practices related to livestock dipping & management within communities. The training manual also aims to develop and capacitate communities in the standard operating procedures in livestock management in the context of recurring droughts to contribute towards resilience outcomes. The primary target of this training are dip tank committees as well as traditional and opinion leaders such as village heads and Councillors. To further support the Livestock Development Committees, following training, the project intends to provide communities with materials for further self-study at community level. This material will be important in transforming dipping attitudes, knowledge and practices, ensuring accountability and sustainable adoption of the new acaricides supply model.
