Job Description

The incumbent will report to the Head Legal and will be responsible for the following, among other duties:

• Giving written and oral legal advice to Senior Management on decisions with legal implications.
• Attending to all cases in which the company is sued or suing and corresponding with company lawyers so that the company’s interests are protected in the courts of law.
• Facilitates Debt Collection of debtors quarantined for write offs.
• Assist with disciplinary procedures and attending to labour cases and ensuring that all outstanding legal cases are completed expeditiously.
• Prepare and review proposed legal documents such as contracts, leases, service level Agreements and other legal instruments.
• Provide assistance to Senior Management concerning how laws and regulations impact their functional areas.
• Provide legal counsel and guidance to Senior Management and Controlling Officers on Legal Matters and related queries.
• Provide legal guidance to the Board and Company with regards to the interpretation of various laws, regulation and interpretation of service level agreements and other contracts
• Keeping abreast of legislation pertaining to the Postal Sector and proposing the necessary changes thereto.
• Ensuring that the Company meets its compliance obligation under the relevant laws
• Managing the legal activities of the company with the objective of protecting the company’s interests.
• Assists in the research and write up of concept papers for the various projects and new business proposals.
• Enforces legal requirements for Local Authorities and Rural District Councils to set aside land for Post Offices in all areas with new housing development schemes.
• Secures the reclaiming of properties irregularly disposed and the return of all repossessed land and handling all resultant legal disputes.
• Formalizes change of use for all company properties under the various Local Authorities and Rural District Councils.
• Assists with Company Secretaries duties when required
• Any other duties as assigned by your superiors

Qualifications and Experience

• University Degree in Law
• Must be a registered legal practitioner
• Minimum of 4 years relevant experience
