ZHI is currently recruiting for the following position under the STOP TB Project. The project aims to support the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) in reducing TB morbidity and mortality by enhancing access to high‑quality TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services. Implementation will take place across several districts, including Midlands (Gokwe South, Gweru, Kwekwe, Shurugwi, Zvishavane), Manicaland (Buhera, Chipinge, Mutare, Mutasa), Matabeleland South (Beitbridge, Gwanda), Matabeleland North (Nkayi), and Bulawayo.
Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician is a member of the technical team at district level responsible for specimen collection, secure storage, transportation, and testing. The Laboratory Technician will be part of the roving team that conducts TB screening and diagnostic testing within communities and targeted high-volume health facilities.
Support the identification of TB transmission hot spots working closely with the field officers, district health information officers (DHIOs) and the informatics partner,
Receiving, labeling and safe storage of samples to be tested,
Determining and performing tests needed for the analysis and report,
Recording & analyzing tests and reporting the results,
Organizing and storing samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the samples,
Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment as necessary,
Maintaining equipment records and daily work logs,
Conduct district-based TB screening and diagnosis outreaches in communities and high-volume health facilities,
Participate in integrated community health outreaches with other health programs,
Support development of monthly and quarterly program implementation work plans,
Conduct site support and learning visits to support TB screening and diagnosis activities at facility and community level through a roving mechanism,
Participate in quarterly, data-driven program review meetings with district MOHCC and project staff,
Compile and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly TB program activity reports,
Actively monitor functionality of laboratory equipment and stock status of consumables,
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
The post holder must maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, organisational policies, and statutory obligations, including safeguarding requirements. As the role may involve engagement with vulnerable populations, the post holder must have a clear safeguarding record and meet all safeguarding standards applicable to donor funded programmes.

Qualifications and experience
Diploma or degree in medical laboratory sciences / technology,
Valid license and practising certificate,
At least 3 years’ experience working at district level,
Proficiency in desktop software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) is a requisite.
