Job Title: Investigation Officers X2
Division: Mergers & Acquisitions
Reporting to: Chief Investigating Officer
Job Purpose
Under the overall supervision of the Assistant Director -Mergers & Acquisitions and the direct supervision of the Chief Investigating Officer, the Investigation Officer shall conduct thorough and timely investigations of mergers and to assess their potential impact on competition in the economy of Zimbabwe, in accordance with the provisions of the Competition Act [Chapter 14:287. The Investigation Officer will gather, analyse, and evaluate information to provide evidence-based recommendations to the Chief Economist and the Assistant Director - Mergers & Acquisitions.
Key Duties/ Responsibilities
1. Identify, through market intelligence, imminent and notifiable mergers that may be or would have been consummated without notification to the Commission in violation of the Competition Act [Chapter 14:28].
2. Assess notified and identified mergers as provided for under the Competition Act [Chapter
14:28/ within stipulated time frames.
3. Compile and submit thoroughly analysed merger examination reports and case recommendations to the Chief Investigation Officer and the Assistant Director-Mergers & Acquisitions.
4. Educate stakeholders and clients on the merger notification provisions, procedures and analysis through public presentations and writing articles.
5. Undertake any other tasks consistent with the job description as may be delegated by the Supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
• A minimum of 5 O' Levels including Maths and English
• A first degree in Economics or Law from a recognised University and a bias towards competition economics and competition law will be an added advantage.
• At least two years' work experience in an economic/legal field
• Excellent communication, presentation and computer skills
• Experience in investigating competition law cases will be an added advantage.
