Job Description

A well-established school trust is seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated individual to the position of Hostel Matron. This position is ideal for a hands-on individual who enjoys a busy environment and has excellent people skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitating and executing daily hostel routine.
• Teaching general and personal hygiene skills to the students and ensuring that students are healthy, well presented and appropriately dressed.
• Helping new students with settling in and looking after all pupils in the hostel, both on a day-to-day basis and in helping them individually to cope with any crises in their lives. This will involve listening to their problems over a wide range of issues and providing counselling services.
• Maintaining and accurately documenting information and correspondence in line with school regulations.
• Contributing to the review of relevant policies.
• Preparing and implementing hostel activities to create a friendly and happy atmosphere in the hostel.
• Being a point of contact for and with parents.
• Monitoring the behaviour of students within the hostel, both good and bad.
• Providing First Aid services at sports events.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Teaching degree or diploma.
• A diploma in Counselling would be an added advantage.
• Computer literate.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
• Ability to make quick quality decisions, possess integrity, patience, and social responsibility. Compassion and sympathy.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Aptitude to deal with emergencies.
• Good people skills.
• Ability to lead and work as a part of a team.
• Good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Patience and a sense of humour.
