JOB SUMMARY
The Health Officer will be responsible for supporting the management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) framework. This role involves providing timely and effective treatment for children with SAM and managing common childhood illnesses through a comprehensive, integrated approach.

Duties and Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. SAM and IMCI Support:
• Provide treatment for children with SAM using Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and medical interventions.
• Implement IMCI interventions to manage illnesses such as pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria.
• Support facilities with at least five SAM cases by providing medical equipment, essential supplies, and staff training.
• Ensure comprehensive care through Outpatient Therapeutic Programs (OTPs) and Stabilization Centers (SCs).
• Maintain continuity of care through clear referral pathways from community health workers to primary health facilities and higher-level centers.
2. Outreach Services:
• Conduct outreach services in hard-to-reach areas using Health mobile units.
• Support Village Health Workers (VHWs) in providing essential services for childhood illness management and malnutrition screening.
• Ensure timely referrals and basic treatments for common illnesses in remote communities.
• Coordinate with outreach teams to visit hard-to-reach areas twice a month in primary districts.
3. Referral for Complex Cases:
• Ensure referrals for survivors needing higher levels of care, including emergency health support for survivors of rape and physical abuse.
• Facilitate referrals to courts for survivors seeking legal recourse.
4. Psychosocial Support Integration:
• Integrate Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) into SAM treatment.
• Provide emotional and psychological support alongside nutritional rehabilitation.
• Promote cognitive development and motor skills through age-appropriate play and learning activities.
5. Immunization Support:
• Integrate support for the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) into SAM treatment.
• Ensure children catch up on missed immunizations during SAM treatment.
• Coordinate with EPI programs to provide timely immunization services alongside nutritional recovery.
• Any other responsibilities /tasks as deemed necessary.
• Adherence to the requirements of the CBFRM guidelines & procedures. The employee will implement and take part in activities in line with the CBFRM guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma or Degree in Nursing; a postgraduate qualification in Public Health, Nutrition or any other relevant field will be an asset.
• Registered with the Nursing Council of Zimbabwe with a valid practicing certificate
• Ability to work with minimal supervision individually or as part of a team.
• Must be deadline-oriented and have excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and facilitation skills
• Ability to speak, read and write local languages.
• Previous NGO experience is an added advantage.
