Job Description

Young Africa (YA) is a youth empowerment organisation working across Southern Africa to equip disadvantaged youth aged 15–25 with vocational, entrepreneurial, and life skills for self-reliance and dignity. YA operate in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Namibia, Zambia, and is expanding into Nigeria and South Africa.
We seek an experienced and visionary Greening Strategy Implementation Lead to pilot the implementation of Young Africa’s Greening Strategy. This role is pivotal in laying the groundwork for scaling the strategy across all YA affiliates in the region. The successful candidate will oversee the rollout of greening initiatives, ensuring comprehensive documentation, learning, and adaptation to guide regional replication.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy Implementation & Oversight
• Lead the pilot implementation of the YA Greening Strategy at the Zimbabwe model centre.
• Coordinate action plans across the five strategic outcome areas: operations, curriculum, culture/governance, industry/community engagement, and green funding.
• Tailor actions to local context while aligning with global sustainability frameworks and national climate policies.
Documentation & Learning
• Develop robust documentation of implementation processes, outcomes, and lessons learned.
• Produce regular learning briefs, case studies, and toolkits to guide replication in other centres.
• Collaborate with the MEL team to track progress and generate knowledge products for internal and external sharing.
Technical Leadership
• Provide hands-on technical support in greening operations, including renewable energy, water and waste management, and sustainable infrastructure.
• Support curriculum greening through integration of green skills, project-based learning, and hands-on demonstrations.
• Guide staff and franchisees in adopting sustainable practices.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Build and maintain relationships with key local stakeholders including government agencies, community groups, and green industries.
• Facilitate industry linkages to ensure alignment of training with green job market demand.
• Support the creation of local partnerships for community engagement and outreach activities.
Capacity Building
• Conduct capacity-building workshops for staff, trainers, and students on sustainability, environmental stewardship, and circular economy principles.
• Support the establishment and strengthening of the centre-level Greening Committee.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
• Work with the MEL team to implement monitoring systems and track KPIs related to greening efforts.
• Ensure clear, data-driven reporting and transparency in progress toward greening goals.
• Document pilot outcomes and support the development of a scale-up roadmap for other centres.
Resource Mobilisation
• Support identification of funding opportunities and contribute to the development of proposals for climate finance, circular economy initiatives, and donor partnerships.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master’s degree in environmental studies, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, or related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in implementing climate action or sustainability initiatives, preferably within TVET or youth development settings.
• Strong understanding of greening TVET, climate-smart operations, renewable energy, waste management, and community-based environmental programs.
• Demonstrated ability to lead pilot projects, generate learning, and scale good practice.
• Experience with project monitoring, documentation, and reporting.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and communication skills.
