About
Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest German non-governmental organisations in development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in co-operation with local partner organisations, our task is to contribute to the improvement in nutritional and income base for the low-income populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Zimbabwe since 1980. Sector focus is on Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Food and Nutrition Security, Livelihoods and when necessary, Emergency Response.

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is implementing a Financial Skills Training of Trainers (ToT) project. The project's broad objective is to roll out a series of ToT training targeted at WFP four field offices (Bulawayo, Harare, Masvingo and Mutare) and the respective cooperating partners and AGRITEX officers. The training of trainers’ programme anticipated outcome is to equip the trained personnel with skills and materials that enable them to impart skills to FFA participants that helps to enable households to budget and record financial transactions for effective business management and for those households engaged in agriculture as a livelihood option, they should be able to treat farming as a business with sound management skills and decision-making processes well defined. In addition, the ToT will create a culture in the targeted beneficiaries of promoting prudent risk taking on areas where business and livelihood opportunities exist through increased capacity to negotiate and look for best markets for their produce, beneficiation, processing and other methods that can be used to improve post-harvest handling and increase value of agricultural produce.

Duties and Responsibilities

Purpose and task of the consultancy
The purpose of the consultancy is to develop artistic illustrations for the Financial Skills training manuals that include 5 training manuals (Financial literacy, Farming as a business, Market Linkages, Business Management, and ISAL) and the associated training aids for the training manuals. The consultant is expected to visualize pictorial stories and come up with drawn out pictures that depict well the content of the story and the training content. The drawn-out pictures should aid in the trainees understanding of the training subject. The manual pictures and training material will contribute to the overall knowledge retention strategy and align well with farmer / FFA participant experiences for effective learning purposes. In close collaboration with the Head of Project for Financial skills project and the respective district teams, the consultant will be expected to fulfill the following tasks: Sketch and draw out informative illustrations and diagrams that depicts well the training content and training outcomes anticipated; Design the cover pages of the manuals; Redesign or draw out training aids; Any other task necessary to support the development of the training manuals.

Timeframe
The Consultant shall be contracted for a period of 4 weeks starting from 2 May 2022 until 27 May 2022. The consultant shall provide 20 working days with flexible working hours.

Results / outputs of the consultancy
The deliverables of the consultant will be as follows: Fifty (50) sketched illustrations as guided by the manual development team; 5 manual covers as guided by the manual development team.

Lines of communication
The consultant shall work closely with the Financial Skills training advisor and report to the Financial Skills Head of Project. Progress updates shall be shared with the respective training specialist.

Remuneration
The consultant shall be paid on submission and approval by the Head of Project of the deliverables set in the contract. Remuneration will be set against each sketched illustration produced, at a rate not exceeding US$150 per sketched illustration. The consultant shall be responsible for taxation. The quoted rate is inclusive of all office running and communication costs. Where travels within the districts are needed, Welthungerhilfe will provide support in line with the internal Welthungerhilfe regulations for the traveling time.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualification
A registered artwork or graphical art company. However, freelance artist can also bid for the work if they have done previous illustrating work for developmental manuals; At least 2 previous demonstrable work designing illustrations for training manuals; Artist should have had exposure to livelihoods programmes with related thematic area focus for easier contextualization; Experience consulting for donor funded NGO programmes; Experience working with Welthungerhilfe will be an added advantage.
