Job Title: Graduate trainee - Trade Tariffs (1) and Trade Remedies (2)
Division: Tariffs
Reporting to: Chief Investigator
This role is ideal for a recent graduate interested in international trade or economic policy. The trainee will support analytical, policy, and administrative functions related to trade remedies (anti-dumping, countervailing, and safeguard measures) and tariff assistance structures to help protect and enhance domestic industry competitiveness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in reviewing and investigating tariff applications submitted by affected domestic industries.
• Support investigations into unfair trade practices and import surges, including data gathering, analysis, and reporting.
• Analyze and interpret tariff schedules, customs duties, and preferential trade arrangements.
• Monitor global trade trends and assess their implications for national tariff policy and domestic competitiveness.
• Contribute to the drafting of policy briefs, technical reports, status updates, and stakeholder presentations.
• Liaise with internal departments, private sector stakeholders, and international partners on trade-related matters.
• Represent the Division in trade-related meetings, business
association engagements,
workshops, and industry consultations.
• Support public awareness initiatives by developing communication materials, including articles on trade remedies and trade tariffs.
• Participate in
industrial visits to assess
sector-specific challenges affecting
competitiveness.
• Maintain organized records and databases of trade remedy and tariff assistance cases.
• Carry out additional duties assigned in support of the Tariffs Division's objectives.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
• A minimum of 5 O * Levels including Mathematics and English
• Bachelor's degree in International trade, Economics, or a related field (required).|
• A recent graduate from a recognized University and who is not more than 27 years old
• Basic knowledge of WTO trade rules, regional trade agreements, and national trade policy frameworks.
• Strong research, analytical, and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with data analysis tools is an advantage.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic policy and regulatory environment.
