Job Description
Maintain, curate, and optimise all spatial datasets and mapping systems for Smart Waste Collection and Fleet tracking. Ensure route accuracy, GPS integrity, geofencing, and spatial analytics feed into operations and reporting dashboards.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Maintain canonical GIS layers: road network, collection zones, dumpsites, assets, points-of-interest.
• Map matching and route layer validation; integrate and maintain base maps (Mapbox/OSM/Here).
• Develop and implement route-chunking, map-matching, and telemetry smoothing.
• Manage GPS devices provisioning, firmware updates and field calibration.
• Provide maps and spatial analysis for planning, fleet ops and management dashboards.
• Provide in-field training for drivers on tablet/GPS usage and troubleshooting.
• Integrate GIS data with DW/BI pipelines and support spatial queries in analytics.
• Maintain GIS metadata, version control, and backup of spatial datasets.
• Support incident investigations that require spatial evidence (e.g., missed collections).
Qualifications and Experience
• BSc Degree in Geo informatics, GIS, or related discipline.
• Proficient with QGIS, PostGIS, Mapbox, GeoJSON, shapefiles, coordinate systems.
• Experience with routing engines (OSRM, Valhalla, Mapbox Directions, HERE).
• Basic SQL, Python scripting for data processing (preferred).
• Experience with GPS hardware and rugged tablets.
• 5+ years field GIS experience; experience in logistics/transport desirable.
