Objective of the Post
Planning, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring all Environment Health activities in collaboration with the Project Operations Responsible/Project Medical Responsible of the project and with Regional EH Support personnel related to provision of safe water, adequate hygiene (both personal and environmental), sanitation facilities, vector control, waste management and mitigating environmental degradation through implementing catalytic and agile Environmental Health interventions

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities
● Context and situation analysis, field assessment of the targeted mining locations to understand the overall situation needs and gaps identification
● EH emergency preparedness and response within the project catchment area’s as well as outside in the country upon request by Country Support Team / Regional Support Team
● Elaborating and reviewing the budget for the activities in order to identify and give a response to the needs of the project and targeted populations
● Water quality analysis, assessing anthropogenic contamination in water bodies linked to artisanal mining practices, diagnosis of the boreholes, field works for borehole rehabilitations, water supply at the communities, waste management, sanitation and hygiene, vector control, infection control, siting and drillings of new boreholes, EH field work supervisions
● Human Resource Management – plan, involve, develop and manage all Envoronmental Health staff in project
● Capacity building of staff in groundwater portfolios including borehole diagnostics and drilling and related activities will be the part of the project in collaboration with regional EH support and EH Unit in Brussels
● Ensuring MSF procedures and protocols are followed by the EH team to guarantee operational quality of the project
● Ensuring that all the technical equipment (geophysical survey equipment, borehole diagnostics equipment, drilling equipment, water quality test equipment, others) are used under set protocols and are well maintained
● Initiate pilots on waste management and sanitation in collaboration with stakeholders
● Conducting routine WatSan assessments in collaboration with Medical teams/HP teams to identify the EH needs
● Closely collaborate with technical referents from MSF HQ /Regional Office for any technical support needs
● Reporting – monthly activity reporting and weekly priodic updates on all areas of responsibility

Qualifications and Experience

Educational and professional background
● Essential university degree in Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering, Sanitary Engineering or Environmental Health
● Advanced course in Water Supply and Sanitation Management or related technical public health trainings

Requirements
● Minimum 5 years of proven experience in technical aspects of water and sanitation works, at last one year of it should be at Supervisory or Managerial level
● Two years working experience within an international NGO, preferably in WASH in public health programming
● Experience in or familiar with implementing and promoting the use of two or more of the following activities (water supply, excreta disposal, waste and wastewater management, vector control)
● Excellent ICT proficiency a must, with good reporting, analytical skills and people skills, including ability to work collaboratively with autonomous decision-making experience
● Knowledge of humanitarian WASH preparedness, response and recovery including coordination of the response is required.
● Excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, open mindedness, patience, and diplomacy
● Good command of written and oral English and a local language
