JOB PURPOSE
To provide strategic leadership in World Vision Zimbabwe’s humanitarian field, particularly in emergency response, food assistance, GIK Management, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The role involves influencing government and donor policy, raising funds through strong donor relations, and positioning World Vision Zimbabwe as a competent voice in minimizing the impact of disasters on child well-being. Responsibilities include disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, recovery, and transition.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide Leadership in the Development and Implementation of a Strategy to Deliver Key Team Objectives
Acquire grants to support humanitarian responses and DRR initiatives.
Deploy effective resources to emergencies promptly and efficiently.
Provide leadership in Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation (DM&E) to ensure programs are impactful.
Influence internal and external stakeholders to foster country-level humanitarian action.
Ensure streamlined operations and adherence to humanitarian standards.
Contribute significantly to World Vision Partnership objectives.
Provide Leadership in the Design and Implementation of Food Assistance Programs within WVZ
Ensure all commodities, cash, and other materials earmarked for target populations are appropriately handled, stored, transported, distributed, tracked, fully accounted for, and reported per World Vision standards and donor policies.
Support project staff and district teams in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating approved activities as per program designs.
Ensure program compliance with Humanitarian Accountability standards.
Provide Leadership in GIK (Gift-in-Kind) Planning, Management, and Reporting
Ensure timely GIK planning, management, and reporting, with adherence to compliance standards.
Optimize the use of donated resources to benefit children and communities.
Facilitate the integration of GIK resources into technical programs, ensuring alignment with global Child Well-Being Aspirations and the 2030 strategy.
Achieve Operational Excellence in DRR, Emergency Response Management, and Implementation
Lead the implementation of Disaster Management activities within the national office.
Actively participate in and contribute to the Regional Disaster Management Team (RDMT).
Develop and coordinate a functional National Office Disaster Management Team (NODMT).
Monitor and evaluate emergency situations, advising on appropriate WV responses, including the emergency declaration process.
Maintain standards of excellence in managing the portfolio's human, financial, and technical resources.
Regularly monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure strategic objectives are achieved.
Document and share disaster preparedness processes and learnings across the organization to enhance institutional knowledge.
Develop Collaborative Internal and External Relationships
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
Engage with government bodies, donor agencies, UN organizations, and other NGOs to promote WV’s leadership in humanitarian efforts.
Collaborate with sponsorship teams to integrate disaster management and mitigation into broader organizational objectives.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Rural/Community Development, Agriculture, or equivalent.
Experience:
3-5 years in leadership roles, including cross-functional management.
Expertise in project design, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
Skills:
Networking with NGOs, community structures, and government agencies.
Integrating relief, development, and advocacy initiatives.
Familiarity with WV operations, SPHERE standards, and humanitarian principles.
Demonstrated ability in long-term and short-term planning.
Additional Requirements:
Local language proficiency.
Willingness to travel across all project districts.
