Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following position that has arisen in the University:
DIRECTOR, TEACHING AND LEARNING INSTITUTE
The Director plays a pivotal role in the University’s Senior Management structure, providing strategic leadership, coordinating the governance and overall management of the Institute’s functions. The successful candidate will be appointed on a four-year contract.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Director is responsible for:
RESPONSIBILITIES
 Providing academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, innovation and industrialization
 Positioning the Institute within the National Higher Education Policy in line with Education 5.0 by promoting excellence in teaching, research, community service, innovation and industrialization
 Development and implementation of training programmes to capacitate human capital with skills consistent with Education 5.0 in collaboration with all Departments
 Collaborating with the Quality Assurance Directorate in the assessment of instructional innovations
 Contributing towards the formulation, development, implementation and evaluation of academic and administrative policies
 Quality assurance of all Faculty programmes and activities
 Budgetary planning, control and allocation of income and funding in line with University financial regulations
 Management of human resources activities, amongst others, recruitment and selection, staff development and performance management in liaison with the Human Resources Department
 Mobilizing resources for the Institute
 Management of the Institute’s infrastructure and assets with the support of service Departments
 Developing collaborations and strategic partnerships with Alumni, Institutions, Corporations and Government Agencies in liaison with University Administration
 Developing a sense of community for the Institute, students and staff
 Advising the Vice Chancellor and Senate on academic and administrative issues relating to the Institute
 Undertaking other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
 An earned PhD qualification in an Education related discipline from a reputable University. Possession of a Diploma in Training and Development is an added advantage
 Be appointed at the level of at least Senior Lecturer
 Have a proved track record in academic and administrative leadership and the ability to give sound academic direction to the Institute
 Have evidence of sound research and be published in related academic discipline
 Track record in resource mobilization for research, innovation and industrialization
 Experience at the level of Department Chairperson is an added advantage.
