Job Description

The National University of Science and Technology invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the post of Director of Communication and Marketing that has arisen at the University.
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of Communication and Marketing is the lead communication contact and spokesperson for the University whose mandate is to project and protect the reputation of the University by ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. The office is charged with handling strategic communications, brand management, media relations, crisis communications and internal and external communications.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide advice to the Vice-Chancellor on the University's Communication and Marketing policy and strategy.
2. Promote and enhance the image, reputation and brand of the University regionally and internationally.
3. Prepare written speeches, presentations, feature stories for magazine and web articles; blog posts, news releases, social media content and internal communication notices.
4. Provide crisis communications response during emergencies.
5. Disseminate information pertaining to the University's academic programmes, student life, community engagement activities, infrastructure developments and achievements and contributions to society through various media.
6. Coordinate events and functions of the University.
7. Provide guidance and direction from concept to creation, review and approve all marketing and promotional materials, including brochures, flyers, posters, advertisements (for newspapers, magazines, television, radio, billboards), newsletters, university-wide publications, videos, clothing and merchandise.
8. Coordinate the production and sale of promotional materials, yearbooks, catalogues, diaries, calendars, corporate merchandise other branded artefacts and products.
9. Compile and publish annual and other special reports as may be required from time to time.
10. Coordinate and lead the University's participation at fairs and exhibitions.
11. Control media relations and handle media inquiries and give appropriate and well timed responses.
12. Prepare and control the budget for the Communication and Marketing department, lead, train and supervise subordinates.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate must have a Masters degree in Journalism and Media Studies or Marketing Management or Public Relations or equivalent, with at least four (4) years post qualification experience in an educational institution at senior managerial level. An earned PhD or equivalent will be an added advantage.
Skills and Attributes
Highly responsible, responsive, reliable, and self-motivated individual with proven brand management skills, good oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with members of the media and business communities is essential; as well as the ability to utilize computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting activities. Must be able to plan and execute special events and ceremonies.
