Job Description

Applications are invited for the following senior position that has arisen in the University: -

Dean, School Of Health Sciences And Technology

The newly-established School of Health Sciences and Technology is geared towards filling in the gap in the medical field by training experts in various medical technology related disciplines to support Medical Officers (Physicians). The vision is to have a world-class, research and innovation intensive medical school, seamlessly integrating research, innovation and business to produce world leaders and critical thinkers in applied Health Sciences and Technology. The new School requires a Dean with a distinguished record of teaching, research and scholarship (in product development), and substantial experiences in academic leadership roles.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Duties shall include: -
• Developing, managing and implementing the School's Strategic Plan;
• Providing academic, research, training and administrative leadership for the School of Health Sciences and Technology;
• Ensuring that all the programmes on offer meet the requirements of respective professional and regulatory bodies and development of quality assurance of all School programmes;
• Planning and control in specific areas of Human Resources, Budgeting, development of academic programmes, departmental equipment and related matters;
• Leading the School in achieving its objectives through the development and delivery of sound and innovative programmes, the promotion of excellence in teaching, research, community service, and in securing support for the School through partnership and linkages with other organizations;
• Leading the School in developing new programs and reshaping curriculum in accordance with local and regional needs, promoting research, technology and innovation that lead to industrialization in support of Doctrine Education 5.0;
• Undertaking resource mobilization activities to support university blended teaching and research in the School;
• Ensuring high quality of online and face to face teaching and holistic development of students fit for purpose;
• Contributing to the evolution and maintenance of a comprehensive and conducive learning environment in the School;
• Ensuring that the admission of students and recruitment of staff in the School is professionally done;
• Contributing to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of policy at School level.
• Ensuring that the activities of the School are in alignment with accreditation guidelines;
Monitoring programs/course assessment to ensure academic excellence and integrity.
The Dean would be reporting to the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Experience

Person Specification
Applicants must have both the intellectual and professional adaptability and flexibility to be able to manage, lead and administer academic programmes for the University and the community at large. The ideal candidate should possess academic and/ or professional qualifications recognized by the Medical Professions Council from an approved institution, preferably to the level of medical specialists (Masters) or Doctorate Degree in Medicine, Surgery and related medical area such as Histopathology, Micro-Biology, Molecular Diagnostics, Bio-medical Technology etc. Three (3) or more years of experience supervising curriculum design and development in an undergraduate medical education program or medical establishment would be desirable. The candidate should be at least at Senior Lecturer Grade or have credentials that would qualify him/her for appointment at that level. University teaching, experience at the level of Departmental Chairperson and a strong research background are a distinct advantage. The incumbent should be able to communicate effectively at all levels within and outside the University.
