The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the– Data Scientist, MDI Predictive Displacement Project at London or any existing Save the Children office location.

Scope

Report to: Project Lead, Migration and Displacement Initiative

Staff reporting to this post: n/a

Key internal relationships: MDI colleagues, partner organisation staff, skills-based volunteers, migration and innovation leads within Save the Children.

Key external relationships: IO/NGOs, private sector, research/academic institutions working on migration and displacement, predictive analytics, and/or broader data science and informatics issues.

Budget Responsibilities: none
We can offer circa £ £43,250 per annum ( If based in UK) with an option of flexible of working hours

Duties and Responsibilities

Role Dimensions:
• This is a demanding and fast-moving role in a complex, international federated organisation that works in over 100 countries.
• It calls for a high level of technical literacy in data science with a focus on predictive analytics, a creative and entrepreneurial approach to problem solving, and the ability to work with diverse partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
• Relevant experience working in scientific research or software development involving predictive analytics, ideally including machine learning and artificial intelligence.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques including machine learning, agent-based modelling and modelling of complex systems.
• Proficiency with a modern programming language appropriate for machine learning prototyping: Python is required, and skill in other relevant languages (i.e. R or JavaScript) would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of data structures and data management methods, the ability to analyse a problem and determine an efficient structure for the task; pulling of data/integration of data from multiple sources; ability to clean data via scripting language.
• Experience of working with engineering and design/product teams.
• Project management skill set, including directing and reviewing the work of others through software/innovation development cycles, ideally in a social impact context.
• Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work collaboratively in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• The ability to work independently, in an entrepreneurial environment that prioritises creative problem solving and innovative solutions.
• Ability to communicate technical topics effectively to both technical and non-technical team members and staff.
