The Dairy Technician is responsible for the day-to-day work of the dairy unit - milking, feeding, animal care, cleaning and maintenance. The Dairy Technician works alongside the Dairy Team Leader and another Dairy Technician to ensure the dairy runs efficiently, maintains high standards of animal care, and contributes to the productivity of the wider Ebenezer enterprise, while modelling a strong work ethic to apprentices working in the unit.
The role:
• Dairy Operations - carry out daily milking; feed, water & care for dairy animals & calves; monitor animal health & report concerns; support breeding and herd management; maintain hygiene in the dairy, parlour & calf pens; handle & store milk to required standards.
• Maintenance & Farm Support - assist with repair and maintenance of dairy facilities, fences, water systems & equipment; report breakdowns promptly; support silage making & fodder production for dairy feed supplies.
• Teamwork & Apprentice Support - work closely with the Dairy Team Leader & fellow technician to keep all dairy tasks running smoothly; model good farming practice, teamwork & responsibility to apprentices in the unit through daily example.
Requirements:
• Practical experience working with livestock, preferably dairy cattle.
• Basic understanding of animal husbandry & dairy operations.
• Ability to carry out physically demanding work in an outdoor environment.
• Ability to follow instructions & work well as part of a team.
• Basic maintenance & practical problem-solving skills would be advantageous.
