Job Description

Introduction
Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa), is a feminist pan African, rapid response Fund committed to transforming power relations through resourcing African feminists and womn1 human rights defenders and their formations as an act of solidarity. We are part of the ecosystem of feminist and womn’s movements in Africa and globally. Registered in Nairobi,
Kenya and operating as a virtual organization, the Fund boasts of strategic presence in Africa’s five sub-regions - East Africa: Nairobi, Kenya, Kampala, Uganda and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; North Africa: Cairo, Egypt; Central Africa: Bujumbura, Burundi and Yaoundé, Cameroon; Southern Africa: Harare, Zimbabwe and West Africa: Abuja, Nigeria and Dakar, Senegal.
This year the fund engaged in an introspective process to look back and learn, consider the present shifting context and prepare for a feminist future. The year marked the end of the strategic plan Finger on the Pulse 2016-2020. The Fund’s end term review process presented lessons from implementation and a clear picture of the current context. This process shaped the ten-year strategic compass (Centering African Womn Feminist R/Evolution in Action) that will guide the fund to power social change with a feminist future.
Encased in a movement building approach the Fund will support and work with feminist movements, feminist activists and womn human rights defenders on the following strategic priorities - solidarity and support (grant making, accompaniment, linking), agenda setting and advocacy, knowledge leadership and fostering cultures of care. Engaging with interrelated broad themes of People (peace and political participation); Power (social and economic power); and Planet (natural resource governance and stewardship) the Fund’s programme operations will engage deeply with sub-themes including sexual and reproductive health & rights (SRHR) and bodily integrity. It is against that background that the Fund seeks an expert in the field of SRHR to develop a thought piece that will guide the operationalization of the strategic compass with strategic interventions enhancing SRHR and bodily integrity across Africa.
