About
Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest, privately-held, non-denominational and politically independent German non-governmental organisations in the area of development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in cooperation with local partner organisations, its task is to contribute to improved income and nutrition for the poorest rural populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Zimbabwe almost continuously since 1980. Currently the organisation together with its partners has projects in 5 Provinces. Sector focus is on Food and Nutrition security including WASH, and when necessary Emergency response.

Under the Zimbabwe Agricultural growth program (ZAGP) is the Inclusive Poultry Value Chain (IPVC) Project which seeks to improve the poultry value chain in Zimbabwe. The project is set to run for 3 years in 5 areas of Zimbabwe, Harare, Gweru, Bulawayo and Mutare. The project is being led by COSPE supported by consortium partners which are Sustainable Agricultural Trust SAT, The Livestock and meat advisory council (LMAC) and Cultivating new frontiers in agriculture (CNFA). Welthungerhilfe will be implementing extension and development and will be also providing ICT solutions and developing digital platforms to strengthen performance at every level.

Position summary
Welthungerhilfe seeks to engage a consultant who develops a management mobile application for out growers, which enables monitoring of poultry farmers and allows the contractors to advise their off takers in the proper management of their birds.

Duties and Responsibilities

Job description
The Consultant will be expected to: Design and develop features of a two-way communication and management system which allows feedback from both parties; Ensure the system allows record keeping and report generation for both parties; Share and test run the first version of the app to partners and farmers for review and improvement (if need be) before rolling out; Implement security features to protect and secure database systems; Report to ICT4D department of Welthungerhilfe at every stage of development, additions will be made along the way; Train the team on Application use and management.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications
The Consultant must have: A minimum of 3 years of experience in developing ICT products (with a minimum of two references); Individual or members of the firm should hold BSc/BA in computer science/ IT or equivalent; Should be well versed in the use of Agile methods in ICT products development; Good analytical, documentation skills, presentation of reports and troubleshooting skills; Experience with working with a Non-governmental organization is an added advantage.
