Job Description

The consultant will support TSURO on implementing sub-objective 1; Improving sustainable livestock and land management according to the concept of holistic land and livestock management (HLLM) and agro-ecology: This assignment is rooted in the background that the current project seeks to build on the previous work done by TSURO since 2012 in Chimanimani on piloting principles of regenerative agriculture. The lessons learnt in the previous phases point to a need for capacity building of the main actors (traditional leaders and extension service providers) in the area of holistic planned grazing so that the process gets the buy in and support of these important stakeholders. It is against this background that TSURO Trust, under sub-objective 1 of this current WFD-funded project, seeks the services of a local consultant to design and offer a tailor-made training package for the stated stakeholders in order to enhance their appreciation of the merits, effectiveness and implementation modalities of the principles of Holistic Land and Livestock Management (HLLM) in a typical communal set-up.

Duties and Responsibilities

The specific duties and responsibilities of the consultant will be:
I. Design a short training curriculum for traditional leaders and government extension service providers covering basic principles of holistic planned grazing
II. Conduct an intensive in-field training for the above target group using the agreed curriculum
III. Develop a user-friendly manual for use a s a quick reference guide for later use by the trainees
IV. Produce a detailed training report with clear and actionable recommendations
V. Provide post training remote support to trainees as and when needed
The critical deliverables for the consultancy assignment include:

• Brief inception report
• Proposed curriculum for the training
• Proposed training methodology/approach
• Training report
• Quick reference manual for trainees
The assignment involves a maximum of 15 days spread between 01/12/24-31/12/24. To discuss other deliverables and time to deliver during inception meeting

Qualifications and Experience

The consulting team is required to meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Preferably, it will be an institution/firm/organization with at least ten years of experience offering similar services to smallholder farmers and or their service providers
• Team members must hold qualifications in Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Ecology, Geography and Environmental Sciences, etc.
• The Team leader must have demonstrable experience in facilitating trainings using adult-learning-friendly approaches, curriculum development, and a strong understanding of working with smallholder farmers in Zimbabwe would be an added advantage.
• Have experience developing training modules/ manuals specifically for smallholder farmer groups.
• Demonstrated experience in undertaking similar assignments with NGOs/Civil society organizations within the last ten years in Zimbabwe.
• Excellent facilitation, communication (including the local language for Chimanimani), presentation, and reporting skills

• A list of similar assignments undertaken by the firm or consultant in the past 10 years

The technical lead for the contract will be the Head of Programs (HoP) in TSURO. This person will work closely with an assigned Technical Contract Management Team. NB All applications to be submitted by the 18th of November 2024 1600hours
