Mutare-based leading manufacturer and distributor in FMCG seeks a qualified Concrete Foreman to lead day-to-day concrete works on building and civil projects.
Job Purpose
Plan, coordinate and supervise all concrete-related activities (formwork, reinforcement, batching, placing, finishing and curing) to deliver structures safely, on time, to specification and budget.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Manager/Head of Technical, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
❖ Interpreting drawings, method statements, and ITPs for concrete works and brief teams accordingly.
❖ Planning daily work fronts; organise labour, materials, formwork, and plant (mixers, vibrators, pumps).
❖ Overseeing rebar fixing, formwork erection/striking, and embedment installation to tolerances.
❖ Coordinating batching, slump checks, and timely delivery to pour fronts; minimise cold joints.
❖ Supervising placing, compaction, and finishing; ensuring correct cover, levels, and surface quality.
❖ Managing curing regimes, protection, and early-age crack control; monitoring strip/strike criteria.
❖ Conducting and recording QA/QC: cube sampling, slump tests, pour cards, checklists, and as-builts.
❖ Enforce SHE standards, permits, and toolbox talks; ensure housekeeping and barricading.
❖ Tracking productivity, wastage, and materials; raising requisitions and maintaining stock levels.
❖ Liaising with engineers, surveyors, and subcontractors to resolve site constraints promptly.
❖ Mentoring and appraising artisans and general hands; managing attendance and discipline.
Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes
❖ Education: At least 5 O' Levels including Mathematics and English.
❖ Trade/Qualification: Class 1/2 Bricklaying/Carpentry or Civil Engineering certificate; Foreman/Construction supervision training is an added advantage.
❖ Experience: Minimum 4 years in civil/building projects with 2+ years leading concrete works (slabs, columns, beams, foundations, floors).
❖ Technical: Ability to read drawings/levels; knowledge of formwork systems, rebar, mix designs, curing, QA/QC (slump, cubes), and plant operation basics.
❖ Digital: Basic proficiency in WhatsApp/Email reporting; exposure to MS Excel/Word is advantageous.
❖ Attributes: Safety-first mindset, attention to detail, good communication, teamwork, and time management; resilience to work under pressure and after-hours when required.
