Job Description

Musasa is a national NGO that began its work in 1988, focusing on ending gender-based violence against women and girls in Zimbabwe. Musasa primarily focuses on offering prevention, protection, and direct support services to survivors of gender-based violence, as well as public education and awareness-raising on gender-based violence.
Musasa is inviting suitable candidates to apply for the Harare based post of Communications Intern.

The Communications Intern will enhance the visibility of Musasa’s activities through publications, social media, web based platforms, and other media outlets, while supporting the communications and advocacy department and program team in documenting stories of significant change.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing the Musasa communication strategy as well as project based communication, activities, advising project staff accordingly.
• Engage with media to identify opportunities for advocacy and awareness, assist in producing press statements, releases, newsletters, and preparing materials for public communications platforms.
• Enhance and maintain social media platforms and the website with creative, periodic digital storytelling to improve engagement and reach, utilizing experience in designing and publishing multimedia content using relevant editing applications.
• Drafting articles for social media and the organization’s website, and making media analytics reports.
• Supporting the programmes team in documenting stories of significant change and partnerships/consortium communication efforts.
• Ensure adherence to Musasa and donor brand and visibility guidelines during project implementation, communications procurement, and external communications.
• Support fundraising efforts by contributing to concept notes and proposals, including communication strategies with budgetary requirements.
• Maintain and manage the communications and media houses database, and craft key messages for promotional and educational materials to enhance visibility and awareness.
• Apply practical knowledge of technical media setups, multimedia media software, data protection issues.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least a Diploma/ Higher National Diploma / degree in Communications or Journalism and Media studies. With relevant on–the-job training experience including handling communications campaigns and producing marketing/ communications materials.
• Flexible, proactive, and resourceful with strong technical media and organizational skills, capable of managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines in a rapidly changing NGO environment.
• Language skills in Shona and Ndebele, familiarity with accessibility communication formats, and experience/knowledge of disability inclusive communication materials is an advantage.
• Willingness to perform additional tasks and work together directly with programmes staff.
