Job Description

Childline Zimbabwe is a Private Voluntary Organisation which is registered under the laws of Zimbabwe, specialising in child protection, championing, guarding and protecting their rights through the provision of safe, confidential and child friendly reporting mechanisms centered around a free 24 hour counselling services. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of a Communications and Advocacy Officer in Childline Zimbabwe reporting to the Programmes Development and Support Manager.

Job Purpose:
The Communications and Advocacy Officer shall be responsible for developing and implementing communications for internal and external audiences including staff, donors, businesses, partners, stakeholders and media.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Writing, editing, and distributing content including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization’s activities and services.
2. Developing and implementing effective communications activities for internal and external audiences.
3. Ensuring consistency in terms of voice, branding, messaging and frequency of posting via digital channels.
4. Handling media inquiries and creating effective news releases to gain positive press coverage.
5. Developing and delivering well-executed and effective campaigns.
6. Developing working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and partners.
7. Collaborating with management to develop and implementing an effective communications strategy based on our target audience.
8. Responding to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization.

Qualifications and Experience

Skills & Knowledge required:
• A capable organiser, used to meeting deadlines
• Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Knowledge and a good understanding of Microsoft Office Packages
Qualifications and Experience required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Media or related field.
• 2+ years’ relevant experience in a communications role.
• Class 4 driver’s license with 2 years of continuous driving experience.
• Experience of handling complex communications campaigns
• Wide breadth of multi-channel communications
• Experience of producing a range of marketing materials
• Relevant degree of equivalent experience
