Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

SNV is implementing a regional (multi-country) program entitled Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Zambia and Zimbabwe. OYE aims to improve the livelihoods and prospects for thousands of out-of-school youths (among whom at least 50% are young women) in "green" jobs, agriculture and energy. The project aims to sustainably increase youth employment and income by skills and capacity development of youth (push factor), linking these youth to market opportunities for employment and enterprise development (match factor) in growth sectors that have the concrete potential for employment creation (pull factor). In close liaison with the two country project teams, SNV has a regional knowledge hub in Harare comprising the Program Manager and a Regional Knowledge & Research Advisor, and now seeks the services of a consultant to work with the team to craft a regional communication strategy for the OYE project.

Duties and Responsibilities

Job Description
OBJECTIVES

To raise the profile of the OYE project and brand in order to enhance support from partners, in-country key stakeholders, regional and global actors active in the youth employment sector
To increase awareness about the objectives and the push-match-pull approach of the OYE model amongst the youth
To develop and communicate widely the key project messages about the role of SNV, local partners, national governments and SADC in the OYE initiative
To inform (in-country, regional and global) stakeholders of the progress and impact achievements of the OYE project and encourage the uptake of the project model by target countries and SADC.
SCOPE OF WORK AND ACTIVITIES

The consultant is expected to design and develop a Regional Communication Strategy that provides clear, actionable guidance on the following, among other elements:

Content creation, writing and editing articles, producing audio-visual materials and sharing them appropriately using various media and platforms
Organizing and co-ordinating campaigns and key events especially around global, regional and national themed days
Supporting OYE visibility, profiling and brand positioning through external marketing and events, and managing media coverage in line with global policies
Collecting stories and supporting the development and use of case studies, setting up and maintaining infrastructure and process for regional knowledge exchange
Capturing and archiving project photos, including captions and descriptions
Co-ordinating the design, layout, formatting, editing and printing of annual reports, research products and other publications
Producing and maintaining a library of marketing and communications materials.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications
SNV is seeking a consultant with the following qualifications, knowledge and experience:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a field related to Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Development Studies or other appropriate field of study
At least five (5) years of relevant experience in marketing and communications, preferably in an NGO or international organisation setting
Strong oral and excellent written professional communication skills, networking skills
Creative with attention to detail and quality
Ability to conceptualise and develop visual media products, an advantage
Good planning and organisational skills with a drive for results
Up to date with modern communication technologies/platforms and data visualisation
Dynamic self starter; highly motivated, comfortable in taking initiative and able to work with minimum supervision.
