Job Description

We are seeking a highly competent and business-oriented Medical Laboratory Operations Manager to lead and oversee the full operations of a fast-growing private medical laboratory. This is a senior leadership position for an all-rounder who combines strong technical laboratory knowledge with proven expertise in revenue generation, cost containment, stock control, and human resources management. The ideal candidate must be both operationally hands-on and strategically driven.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Revenue Growth & Business Development
1.1. Develop and implement strategies to increase laboratory test volumes and revenue.
1.2. Build and maintain strong relationships with doctors, hospitals, corporates, and medical aid societies.
1.3. Identify new service lines and expansion opportunities.
1.4. Monitor pricing models to ensure competitiveness and profitability.

2. Financial & Cost Management
2.1. Prepare and manage operational budgets.
2.2. Monitor daily revenue, expenses, and gross margins.
2.3. Implement cost-control measures without compromising quality.
2.4. Analyze financial reports and recommend performance improvements.

3. Stock & Supply Chain Management
3.1. Oversee procurement and inventory management of reagents, consumables, and equipment.
3.2. Ensure zero stock-outs of critical laboratory items.
3.3. Monitor stock usage trends and prevent expiries and wastage.
3.4. Negotiate favorable supplier contracts.

4. Human Resources & Team Leadership
4.1. Supervise laboratory staff including Scientists, Technicians, Phlebotomists, and Admin personnel.
4.2. Manage recruitment, training, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
4.3. Foster a high-performance, customer-focused culture.

5. Quality & Regulatory Compliance
5.1. Ensure compliance with local health regulations and laboratory standards.
5.2. Maintain SOPs and quality assurance systems.
5.3. Lead internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field.
2. Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration (MBA) is an added advantage.
3. Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in laboratory management.
4. Proven track record in revenue growth and operational efficiency.
5. Strong financial literacy and reporting skills.
6. Excellent leadership and communication abilities.
7. Strong strategic thinking skills and commercial acumen
8. Cost control and budgeting expertise
