About
The Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) is implementing a 5-year US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (CDC-PEPFAR) funded Laboratory Systems Strengthening (LSS) program in Zimbabwe from 2021 to 2026. This is in support of the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) Directorate of Laboratory Services, and AIDS and TB program’s national strategic objectives. The LSS program will expand laboratory capacity and enhance access to high quality testing towards achievement of the UNAIDS 95-95-95 goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

The CLI Laboratory Officer will be an experienced Laboratory Scientist in laboratory practice, laboratory quality systems and quality improvement implementation; Reporting to the CLI technical lead, the CLI laboratory officer will assist the technical lead in the implementing the expanded scope of CLI with the national rollout, and working closely with the mentors, scientists, IST staff and LIMS staff, the position will ensure the following; Coordinate program clinic-lab interface (CLI) activities to ensure optimal function of the interface between users of laboratory services and the Viral Load, COVID and EID laboratories, ensure the expansion of formal national CLI activities to all PEPFAR-supported sites, utilize CQI methodologies to identify areas of improvement along the Viral Load testing / EID / COVID value chain, implement and monitor improvement interventions in order to increase Viral Load testing coverage and improve key indicators like TAT and specimen rejection, work in collaboration with other stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and experience
An undergraduate degree in medical laboratory sciences; A postgraduate degree in medical laboratory science is preferred; Certified training in medical laboratory quality assurance e.g SLMTA, ISO-15189, IHI course etc; 5 years plus experience in clinical diagnostic testing including 1-2 years supervisory experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory; Experience in implementing CLI and quality improvement initiatives a must.
