CLIMATE RESILIENCE INTERN INT9372

The Climate Resilience Intern will work closely with country and SAF Cluster staff to ensure high-quality project delivery. Interns will work on specific projects that are fully integrated into the work of Oxfam. The interns may also have an academic supervisor as appropriate. This position will specifically give interns the opportunity to learn and assist in developing, piloting, and revising new tools/approaches for Climate Resilience, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), gendered climate-smart agriculture solutions and innovations and increasing women and youth economic empowerment. The position provides an opportunity to learn from global leaders through an apprenticeship approach. The internship will be beneficial to the intern as well as to Oxfam SAF. The placement should further add practical knowledge and skills to the intern’s theoretical knowledge of international development issues, gender justice, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation/resilience.
Oxfam SAF will also benefit from the wide variety of academic knowledge, professional experience, and personal creativity of interns. Interns can bring new, refreshing ideas/thoughts to the Office and its programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Project Manager, the Intern is responsible for performance of the following duties:
1. Participate in the review and development Oxfam SAF Climate Justice strategy with a focus on gender and agriculture.
2. Review and develop Climate Resilience training materials for JE bringing in gender justice lens.
3. Assist in the development of new grants, (concept papers, expressions of interest, letters of inquiry, project proposals, budgets), and donor reports
4. Support the development of project work plans and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) tools
5. Undertake Climate Resilience research including development of assessment tools, data analysis, and presentation of findings to different end-users
6. Support in the development of Climate Resilience case studies and best practices communications materials
7. Support in training field staff as required
8. Gather relevant materials on Climate Smart Agriculture technologies/practices, Market Systems Development, Natural Resources Management, Biodiversity Conservation, Gender and Climate Resilience, Adaptation Finance tracking, Digitalization of Agriculture, Regenerative Agriculture to enrich CARL project implementation.
9. Assistance in preparation of community disaster risk reduction and resilience plans including linking with best practices with Early Warning Systems to common extreme weather events such as El-Niño induced droughts.
10. Support Oxfam Resilience Community of Practice (CoP), facilitate CoP meetings and undertake follow up activities
11. Conducting research and drafting technical analytical papers on selected resilience building topics such as climate and gender smart agriculture, Ecosystem Based Adaptation, Biodiversity Conservation, etc.
12. Knowledge management and advocacy activities including publications, blogs, linking project teams to best practices.
The intern will learn and gain knowledge on Climate Resilience and disaster risk reduction programming. Specifically, the person will:
1. Acquire practical knowledge and skills related to Climate Resilience, Gender Justice, and DRR approaches and programming
2. Gain experience in providing technical support to country teams on different themes
3. Develop interpersonal and communication skills
4. Acquire practical skills in grants development, monitoring and evaluation, and donor reporting
5. Build a professional network through interaction with different international development organizations/experts
6. Understand the development context of Zimbabwe, and understand gender and climate justice in practice.

Qualifications and Experience

What We Are Looking For:
Recent graduate with Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, Climate Change/Environmental Management, or Social Studies. Those with a master’s degree will have a distinct advantage and will be taken in as Fellowship.

Skills, Experience and attributes
• Demonstrated skills in producing high-quality technical reports on a tight deadline.
• Technical knowledge on Climate, Gender, Agricultural and food systems is a plus.
• Ability to sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with internal colleagues and partners
• Excellent planning and resource management skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
• Ability to multitask with ease and grace, balancing and adapting to frequently changing priorities.
• Flexibility to adapt to any subsequent changes in the terms of reference.
• Work independently and the ability to motivate, inspire and influence others positively to achieve goals
• Communicate with and demonstrate accountability to organization and partners through consultation, liaison, feedback, reporting and transparent use of resources
