Job Description

A Financial Institution which aspires to deliver competitive commercial banking services and affordable low-cost housing to the nation through world-class mortgage loans, is seeking to recruit a Chief Finance Officer. The incumbent will be reporting to the Managing Director and will be responsible for developing and implementing effective administrative and financial management strategies for the business. He/she will provide financial projections and accounting services; prepare growth plans and other KPIs to preserve shareholder value and maximize return on investment. In addition, he/she will be responsible for the ongoing development and monitoring of financial policies and systems and will advise all stakeholders on the financial status of the institution and assist in the formulation and implementation of strategy

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Job Requirements
o Ensure that the financial institution has accurate and complete books of accounts and that all income, and expenses, assets and liabilities are properly accounted for
o Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial and/or performance reports for internal management use and for external stakeholders including the Board and regulators
o Manage the company's financial planning process by preparing comprehensive budgets as a tool for performance evaluation
o Measure and analyse financial performance and initiate corrective actions to reduce variances.
o Continuously monitor and review the institution's cash-flow position
o Develop and maintain systems to benchmark the institution's performance against similar operations in the industry with a view of reducing costs to the lower quartile of the industry cost curve
o Manage fundraising plans and capital structure in consultation with the MD, Board and Shareholders
o Plan, implement and manage the institution's liabilities and investment strategies
o Develop, implement and maintain adequate internal controls to ensure correct asset valuations and reporting of inventories and stocks; including accurate valuation of company projects to ascertain accurate funding requirements and maximise shareholder value and return
o Develop and implement controls that safeguard and maximize the use of the company's assets.
o Design, implement and maintain internal financial control systems
o Develop, implement and maintain cost management systems to keep operating costs within budget
o Adequately prepare the institution's books for audit and coordinate the resolution of all audit queries
o Adhere to tax laws and regulatory compliance to properly reflect the institution's financial position
o Ensure all reconciliations are completed and cleared within stipulated deadlines
o Ensure that all statutory returns and payments are submitted within stipulated time
o Manage and maintain good relationships with various suppliers and vendors
o Provide leadership, training and supervision to staff in the finance and administration department

Qualifications and Experience

o Previous working experience as CFO for at least 3 years, preferably in a financial institution
o A recognised qualification in Accounting, Finance or similar relevant field
o A Master's degree from a reputable accredited institution will be an added advantage
o Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
o Good knowledge of corporate financial law and procurement regulations
o Problem solver and critical thinker with data analysis skills
o Demonstrable entrepreneurial business acumen.
