Job Description

1. Background
Over the last two decades Zimbabwe has been hard-hit by the effects of El Nino, heat waves, droughts and floods among other environmental catastrophes. To build resilience of vulnerable communities, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) developed a project pipeline for the Adaption Fund on "Enhancing Resilience of Communities and Ecosystems in the Face of a Changing Climate in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas of Zimbabwe". To further develop the pipeline into a bankable project the Agency is calling for a consultant to conduct a vulnerability assessment for the proposed intervention areas.
2. Scope of Work
In close consultation with the Environmental Management Agency the Consultant will conduct a climate change vulnerability assessment and adaptation gap analysis to inform a resilience programme development

Duties and Responsibilities

2.1 Specific Activities
• Review the approved climate change Adaptation Fund concept and identify climate change adaptation gaps in the proposed areas considering existing interventions by other partners.
• Engage with local communities to develop a baseline of their capacities and come up with adaptation needs
• Identify the most vulnerable wards/areas that are critical for climate change adaptation interventions.
• Assess climate change vulnerability and adaptive capacities for agriculture, water and natural resources sectors in the targeted areas.
• Develop spatial information showing the various degrees of vulnerability.
• Based on the study, identify priority intervention areas for the most vulnerable communities.
3.0 Key de live rabies
The Consultancy is expected to produce a vulnerability assessment report that will inform the development of the Agency's Adaptation Fund resilience project document The following are the key deliverables:

3.3 Vulnerability report with quantified and prioritised risks
3.4 Needs Assessment
3.5 Priority Interventions.

Qualifications and Experience

Project duration
The study should be completed within 28days. The assignment will commence on 15 February 2021 and ends on 15 March 2021.
5. Required Skills, Competencies and Experience:
• Advanced or Masters degree in Social Sciences, climate change related studies or environmental sciences..
• In-depth practical knowledge of inter-disciplinary development issues
• At least 5 years of experience in developing national and international social assessments.
• Excellent understanding of climate change issues for developing countries.
• Excellent understanding of climate change issues for developing countries.
• Excellent analytical abilities.
• Excellent writing abilities and skills.
