Job Description

To strategically manage the bank's liquidity, investments, and foreign exchange (“FX”) trading activities within the stringent regulatory framework of Zimbabwe. The role is central to optimizing the bank's balance sheet through proactive liquidity management, profitable deployment of funds, and the mitigation of financial risks. A key focus is on driving revenue generation through sophisticated trading, strategic sales, and the development of innovative treasury solutions, underpinned by rigorous fundamental and technical analysis and a relentless success orientation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Core Treasury Dealing & Liquidity Management

Liquidity Management:
• Monitor and forecast the bank's daily cash flow positions, ensuring optimal liquidity at all times.
• Execute daily placements and takings in the interbank market to manage surplus funds or address funding shortfalls.
• Manage the bank's statutory reserves and liquid asset ratios as prescribed by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), ensuring continuous compliance.
• Actively manage the bank's Nostro account positions to ensure sufficient foreign currency for client obligations.
• Develop and implement liquidity contingency plans and participate in stress testing scenarios.
Money Market & FX Trading
• Trade in government securities (e.g., Treasury Bills, Bonds) and other approved money market instruments.
• Execute spot and limited forward FX transactions on the Wholesale Foreign Exchange Auction System and the interbank market, adhering to all RBZ guidelines.
• Make competitive two-way prices (bid/offer) for major currencies for corporate and institutional clients.

Market Analysis & Strategy Formulation
Fundamental Analysis:
• Conduct in-depth analysis of local macroeconomic indicators (inflation, interest rates, money supply, GDP growth), RBZ monetary policy statements, and fiscal developments to form a view on market direction.
• Monitor regional and global economic events that could impact the Zimbabwean financial markets.
Technical Analysis:
• Utilize technical analysis tools (chart patterns, trend lines, indicators) on market data to identify short-term trading opportunities and entry/exit points in the money and FX markets.
• Combine technical and fundamental analysis to develop high-conviction trading ideas.

Sales, Business Development & Innovation
Client Acquisition & Revenue Generation:
• Actively identify, target, and onboard new corporate, institutional, and high-net-worth clients for the treasury department.
• Develop and implement a structured sales strategy to grow the treasury book and increase market share.
Product Development & Innovation:
• Analyze market trends and client needs to design innovative, RBZ-compliant structured deposit or investment solutions.
• Pioneer the development of digital treasury services to improve client experience and operational efficiency.
Customer Relationship Management & Communication
Strategic Client Communication:
• Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with a portfolio of key clients.
• Act as a trusted advisor, providing clear, timely, and insightful communication on interest rate trends, FX market dynamics, and actionable opportunities.
• Articulate complex market concepts and trade ideas effectively to clients with varying levels of treasury knowledge.
Internal Communication:
• Provide clear and concise daily briefings to the Treasury Manager and senior management on market conditions, trading positions, and P&L.
• Liaise effectively with back-office and middle-office teams to ensure smooth settlement of all transactions.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Accounting, or a related field.
• A Masters degree in Finance or Business Administration (MBA) will be a distinct advantage.
• Essential: A valid and relevant professional qualification such as:
• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
• Associate of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI)
• ACI Financial Markets Association Dealing Certificate
• A local qualification from the Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe (IOBZ) would be highly regarded.
