Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the position of Vice Chancellor that has arisen in the University.
The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer of the University whose mandate is to provide institutional leadership and oversight, develop and drive the vision, mission, strategy and act as chief advocate, and principal ambassador of the University. He/she reports to the University Council

Duties and Responsibilities

The Vice Chancellor Shall:
• provide visionary and strategic leadership to the University, maintain and promote research and innovation as well as ensure efficiency and good governance of the institution;
• provide academic, administrative and financial leadership to the University and as such shall be responsible to the University Council for maintaining and promoting University policies, plans and programmes;

• ensure that the strategic plan of the University is implemented and monitored; initiate, propose, Implement and monitor policies, systems and procedures in relation to all learning, research, innovation and administrative programmes of the University; provide leadership in mobilising resources necessary for the implementation of the University policies, plans and programmes;
• chair meetings of the University Senate;
• take lead in advocacy for the University and its strategic interest through active engagement with the Responsible Authority, government, the community and other stakeholders; ensure optimal utilisation of available resources, good governance, transparency and accountability; develop and maintain positive progressive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including the Council; the Senate, faculty, students, staff, alumni, community and national leaders, funding agencies and other educational institutions;
• ensure that the vision and mission of the University are fulfilled; promote cooperation, the image and reputation of the University nationally and globally; represent the University in relevant fora in order to promote an understanding of the University's mission and strategic interests; regularly report to the University Council and Chancellor on all matters pertaining to the University,
• perform any other duties as may be assigned by the University Council.

Qualifications and Experience


Required Qualifications and Experience:
1. an earned PhD and Professorship from a reputable and accredited Higher Education Institution (HEI). The Professorship should be earned in accordance with the ZIMCHE guidelines on academic promotions.
2. proven academic leadership and administrative capabilities. Has a minimum of three years as Pro Vice Chancellor.
3. be a dynamic, distinguished and internationally renowned scholar who demonstrates academic excellence in terms of quality of publications, teaching and credible community service.
4. must be a practicing Christian of unassailable transparency, honesty and integrity.
5. proven/demonstrated high level of experience in networking, resource mobilisation and preparation of grant proposals. He/she should have knowledge and proven experience in engaging with International Development partners.
6. proven experience in performance management in a reputable public or private institution.
7. proven experience in national, regional and/or international policy development in higher education
8. thorough knowledge of the structural, legislative, and regulatory framework for the management of higher education in Zimbabwe.
9. good knowledge of public financial management and strategic planning.
