Midlands State University has two (2) farms namely Gwenoro and Pitscottie. Gwenoro farm is located in Shurugwi District whilst Pitscottie farm is in Kwekwe District. Gwenoro farm has a host of holistic agricultural activities ranging from horticulture, citrus production, agronomy and greenhouse horticulture. Pitscottie farm is into cattle ranching and poultry production with 200 hectares cleared for agricultural expansion. Therefore, the University invites suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following posts:

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND ADMINISTRATION OFFICE

POST: ASSISTANT FARM CO-ORDINATOR (2 POSTS)

POST A: Gwenoro Farm

POST B: Pitscottie Farm

Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will report to the Farms Co-ordinator and will be responsible for:

Ensuring that the farm is profitable and meets the set financial targets;
Inspects equipment to ensure proper functioning;
Inspects orchards and fields to determine maturity dates of crops or estimate potential crop damage from weather;
Scouts for diseases and provide remedial actions;
Directs and coordinates worker’s activities such as planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, grading and recordkeeping;
Maintaining and repairing of fences and paddocks;
Ensuring good fence maintenance and repair of farm equipment and buildings;
Performing any other duties as assigned by the Farms Co-ordinator;

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Diploma in Agriculture
A degree in Animal Science, Agronomy or Horticulture is an added advantage
At least five (5) years working experience in farm management

KEY COMPETENCIES

Vast experience in Horticultural production;
Wide knowledge in citrus production;
Wide knowledge in poultry production;
Good supervision skills;
Good planning and decision making skills;
Be able to keep accurate and up to date records;
Hands on person with good report writing skills;
General knowledge in animal management crop production;
Pastures/ veld management skills;
