We are seeking a dedicated Aquaculturist to join our organisation. Reporting to the Operations Director – Commercial Production, the successful applicant will be responsible for the following key duties:
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinating the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive Fisheries and Aquaculture Strategic Plan.
• Supervising the planning and production for fishing and aquaculture operations to meet production requirements and market demand.
• Tracking aquaculture and fishery market activity.
• Establishing and managing budgets, monitoring production output and costs, recording information such as fisheries management practices, and preparing financial and operational reports.
• Conducting aquaculture or fishery stock examinations to identify diseases or parasites.
• Devising and coordinating activities to improve fish hatching and growth rates, and to prevent disease in hatcheries.
• Supervising and monitoring the trapping and spawning of fish, and egg incubation.
• Coordinating the selection and maintenance of brood stock.
• Monitoring the transfer of mature fish to ponds, streams, or commercial tanks.
• Training aquaculture or fishery employees and contractors.
• Enforcing SOPs and controls governing the management of aquaculture resources.
• Developing value-added fishery products for domestic consumption and export.
• Assisting fishery businesses and local communities in managing and developing fishery resources.
• Developing and maintaining a database on fisheries and aquaculture production and productivity.
• Promoting the adoption of new fisheries and aquaculture production and development technologies.
• Preparing reports.
• Enrolling value chain actors to support aquaculture and fisheries value chain objectives.
• Performing any other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries/Aquaculture Development/Natural Resources, or a related field.
• 5 “O” Levels including English Language and Mathematics.
• At least 3 years of experience in fisheries/aquaculture management, trade, safety and quality, or development of aquatic foods.
