We’re Hiring!
Our client, a leading player in the Tobacco Industry is looking for a suitably qualified
individual to fill the following position:
Agronomist – responsible for working closely with the company’s contracted farmers,
ensuring they meet production targets, quality standards, and contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruit and contract farmers in line with company requirements.
2. Guide farmers on seed selection, land preparation, planting, fertilization, irrigation,
pest and disease control, harvesting, and curing.
3. Conduct regular farm inspections to monitor crop growth, input usage, and adherence
to good Agricultural Practices.
4. Identify and address potential risks that could affect yield or quality (e.g., drought, pest
outbreaks).
5. Maintain accurate farmer records including acreage planted, input distribution, and
production forecasts.
6. Organize and lead farmer training programs, field demonstrations, and best practice
workshops.
7. Provide weekly and seasonal reports to management on farmer performance, crop
progress, and market conditions.
8. Promote continuous improvement and innovation in production techniques to boost
yield and quality.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in tobacco agronomy, preferably in a contract farming
environment.
3. Knowledge of tobacco production cycles, curing methods, and quality assessment.
4. Strong ability to train, motivate, and supervise a large base of farmers.
5. Good administrative and reporting skills, with attention to detail.
6. Valid driver’s license, able to ride a motorbike and willingness to travel extensively.
