Job Description

Implement and provide technical support to agricultural activities and follow up with the beneficiaries.

Duties and Responsibilities

Objective 1: Planning agriculture related project activities

• Meets with the Field Supervisor and discuss project details such as agroecology and agriculture related activities and field budgets.
• Develops an activity plan and Individual Plan for agriculture related activities in line with project plan and submits to the supervisor for
guidance.
• Plans weekly, monthly and quarterly project activities.
• Facilitate and participate in project quarterly review meetings.

Objective 2: Agronomy support:

• Identifies and registers famers to participate in the project.
• Provides technical support on FAP, agroecology and good agricultural practices to farmers in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture
and other relevant departments.
• Facilitates training and sets up FAP gardens and vegetable plots using the lead farmer approach as guided by the project documents in
operational wards.
• Facilitates formation of farmer groups using lead farmer approach
• Train farmers on FAP, agroecology, GAP, Climate Smart Agriculture, permaculture, IPDM and postharvest handling and storage
• Facilitate distribution of agriculture inputs
• Train farmers on, and facilitate, market linkages.
• Conduct monitoring of activities to ensure proper usage of inputs and reception by targeted beneficiaries

Objective 3: Agric related research, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning
.
• Train farmers on (and facilitating) participatory research and experimentation.
• Assist farmers with design and setting up of individual plot layouts.
• Training farmers and community members biodiversity and ecosystem monitoring.
• Implementation of Community-Led MEAL.
• Facilitate learning and exchange visits for farmers and stakeholders.
• Contributes to development of research and MEAL tools for the project.
• Uses the developed monitoring and evaluation tools to monitor agriculture activities at field level.
• Participate in project assessments and surveys. Compile or contribute to compilation of assessment reports.
• Documentation of data /evidence and capitalization of learnings and findings.
• Compiles and submits weekly, monthly, quarterly and activity reports to the Supervisor.
• Establish effective feedback and accountability mechanisms. Respond to issues and compile AAP reports.

Objective 4: Stakeholder coordination.

• Manages relationships with stakeholders including Government line Ministries, NGOs and private sector at ward le
• Shares project activity plans and reports with relevant line ministries.
• Liaises with Agritex, EMA, MWACSMED and other departments on implementation and monitoring of project activities at ward level.
• Attend stakeholder coordination meetings as and when required.

Key decisions made.

• Decides on daily activity plans.
• Decides on resources required to carry out the activities.
• Decides on refresher trainings on identified/specific areas.

Policy compliance – Mandatory Reporting Policy (MRP):
• Comply with all NAZ policies.
• Assist where necessary in undertaking activities that aim to prevent the occurrence of sexual abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries by
NAZ and other humanitarian workers.

Confidentiality:
• Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of NAZ acquired in the course of duty, to
any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.

Note: The role of the Agriculture Assistant cannot be limited to the specific duties and tasks detailed herein. The success of the NAZ’s mission is the highest priority and all issues which arise must be addressed accordingly. Therefore, the Agric Officer will be required to manage all unforeseen issues and circumstances and remain flexible to perform other duties, as and when required.

Qualifications and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, or related field.
• At least 3 years’ experience in agriculture or agribusiness, with training/capacity building of smallholder farmers.
• Class 3 driver’s license plus riding experience
• Hands-on field experience required, field experience.

• Autonomy
• Good knowledge of the local languages and culture will be an added advantage.
