Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the position below, which has arisen within the Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC).
Actuarial Director

Duties and Responsibilities

The Actuarial Director will regulate and supervise the actuarial and solvency requirements of insurance companies and pension funds Zimbabwe.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor the solvency and financial condition of insurance companies and pension funds by reviewing reserves and capital levels (where applicable) in reports submitted by statutory actuaries of insurance companies and valuators of pension funds.
• Review products- actuarial certification of compliance with laws and regulations.
• Evaluate the reasonableness of premium rates for all products sold in the market.
• Advise the Commissioner on the impact to the public and others of acquisitions, mergers and bulk transfers.
• Assist in the rehabilitation or liquidation/dissolutions of troubled entities.
• Develop and implement changes in laws and regulation in the Insurance and Pensions industry.
• Develop systems for adequate data governance within the Insurance and Pensions Industry including actuarial models for the continuous monitoring of the Industry's Key Performance Indicators.
• Advise the Commissioner on all actuarial aspects of Insurance and Pensions regulation.
• Establish a fully-fledged actuarial department within IPEC.

Qualifications and Experience

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Proven knowledge and skills in solving practical actuarial problems in insurance and pensions. Strong communication skills, writing clear and concise reports.
Qualifications
• Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or Actuarial Society of South Africa or Society of Actuaries or any other actuarial body recognized by the International Actuarial Association.
• Be a member of the Actuarial Society of 11 mbabwe.
Experience
At least 1-year post qualification relevant experience. An appreciation of insurance and pensions matters.
