Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and ACCA-qualified Accounting Officer to join our remote team. This role is critical to maintaining our financial compliance and operational efficiency in the UK market. You will manage complex tax obligations, ensure accurate payroll and self-assessment filings, and keep us ahead of ever-changing UK tax laws.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage and file quarterly Reverse VAT returns, ensuring full compliance with HMRC rules.
• Ensure compliance with UK Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements, including digital record-keeping, VAT return preparation, and submission through HMRC-approved software.
• Administer the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), including verifying subcontractors, deducting and paying amounts due, and filing monthly returns.
• Handle end-to-end Self-Assessment filings for company directors and staff.
• Manage PAYE processes, including calculating deductions, understanding thresholds, and submitting RTI (Real Time Information) correctly and on time.
• Leverage extensive knowledge of Sage accounting software to manage daily bookkeeping, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Utilize the directgov.uk website to file all necessary returns and stay updated on regulatory changes.
• Monitor and interpret constant changes to UK tax law, providing guidance on allowable/disallowable expenses and optimizing tax positions.
• Ensure all tax filings are accurate, timely, and fully compliant with HMRC requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• ACCA qualified and registered (Strategic Professional level).
• Extensive, hands-on understanding of the CIS scheme.
• Proven knowledge of Reverse VAT and quarterly filing requirements.
• Working knowledge of Making Tax Digital (MTD) and quarterly submissions.
• Extensive experience with Sage accounting software.
• Very good knowledge of the directgov.uk website for filing purposes.
• Strong knowledge of Self-Assessment processes for individuals.
• Solid PAYE knowledge and thresholds.
• Extensive understanding of constant changes to UK tax law, including knowledge of what can and cannot be claimed back.
