A leading microfinance institution is seeking a diligent, hardworking, and results-oriented Accountant with a proven track record in the microfinance sector. The successful candidate will be tasked with overseeing the financial management and accounting operations of the company, ensuring the institution’s financial health and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
Role Profile:
The Accountant will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for leading the finance team while guiding the organization on all financial matters. The role requires an in-depth understanding of financial management, microfinance accounting principles, and strong analytical skills. The Accountant will ensure efficient financial operations, compliance with regulatory standards, and the continued growth of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
• Financial Accounting: Oversee all aspects of the institution's accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and payroll.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to management, the board of directors, and regulatory authorities.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop, manage, and monitor the institution’s annual budget. Prepare financial forecasts and projections.
• Cash Management: Oversee cash flow and liquidity management to ensure operational needs are met.
• Internal Controls: Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent financial mismanagement.
• External Audit and Compliance: Ensure satisfactory ratings on external and year-end audits and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Financial Strategy & Decision Support: Collaborate with management to develop financial strategies and provide decision support based on financial data.
• Risk Management: Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
• Team Leadership & Development: Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent (preferred).
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, ideally in the microfinance sector.
• Strong knowledge of microfinance accounting principles and financial regulations.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and cash management.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
