Project Description
The goal of the FARM Activity is to support farmers, their households, and communities to diversify, intensify, and commercialize their crop and livestock production to build their assets and be more able to absorb, adapt, and transform in the face of climate, economic, and other shocks, allowing them to live healthier and more productive lives.
To achieve this goal, FARM will build on work tested and proven by previous Feed the Future efforts in Zimbabwe to immediately scale up and integrate “farming as a family business,” household and community nutrition, and private sector engagement using a whole farm approach to support farmers and their households in following climate-smart practices, consuming an adequate range of nutrient dense products as part of a healthy diet, and treating their farms as family businesses that engage women and youth in meaningful economic activity.
Job summary :
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist (WS) will provide WASH technical expertise in support of the Feed the Future Zimbabwe Fostering Agribusiness for Resilient Markets (FARM) Activity. WS will contribute in building sustainable household WASH behaviours among FARM beneficiaries and act as the focal point of the Activity’s WASH issues in liaison with relevant stakeholders. He or she is expected to fully contribute as a FARM team member, conducting himself or herself in a proper manner at all times as a representative of the Activity.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide strategic and technical leadership on improving WASH activities in all interventions, including the following
activities:
• Incorporation of WASH training and technical assistance into agricultural commercialization activities
• Write background documents, briefs, and presentations, reviews, landscape analysis, and data analysis on WASH
• Work closely with technical staff to integrate relevant WASH messaging across FARM interventions
• Facilitate participatory and community-based approaches.
• Develop WASH educational material for both staff and beneficiaries.

Project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting
• Provide technical input and analysis in developing FARM deliverables such as the annual work plan and quarterly reports
• Support FARM technical team in the design and rollout of WASH interventions to ensure they align with the broader FARM outcomes.
• Contribute in developing WASH related trainings, guidelines and standards while also supporting the provision of trainings, technical assistance, and demonstrations to households covering household hygiene, methods of hygienically preserving and storing diverse food products, and water.
• Support FARM MEL processes for Objective 2 by providing technical input on designing, reviewing, monitoring and evaluation of indicators and targets under this objective
• Contribute to quarterly, annual and any other relevant Activity reports; data collection, and evaluation.
• Develop tools to document lessons learned related to WASH, evaluate impact and modify approaches as needed
Coordination & Representation:
• Organize and implement the WASH aspect of the Activity and ensure compliance with FARM guidelines.
• Develop and maintain working relationships with local WASH actors, including national and local governments, communities, private sector, other USAID projects, NGOs, other donors, etc.
• Contribute to program/project design, implementation, learning, and monitoring, and evaluation through active collaboration with all team members
• Work closely with technical staff to integrate relevant WASH messaging across FARM interventions.
• Act as the program’s WASH representative as it relates to WASH initiatives
Administrative and Other Duties:
• Provide regular written reports on FARM’s WASH activities
• Orient new staff and visitors on FARM’s WASH activities
• Submit monthly HR documents to NAZ home office required for salary processing

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent - Environment, Health, Human Development, or WASH related field.
• Working experience of at least four years in WASH, Primary Health Care with 2 years at managerial level
• Should be able to work with minimal supervision
• Should be computer literate (Microsoft packages, statistical packages).
