Organization Profile
The TENDAI Steps Together Trial is a two-arm randomized effectiveness trial evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a brief, stepped care treatment for depression and ART adherence in viremic patients with HIV. The Tendai Steps Together Trial is a study conducted by the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences in collaboration with Kings College London Institute of Psychiatry Psychology and Neuroscience (London UK) and the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Job Description
The position involves carrying out research related duties including patient recruitment, evaluation and follow up, according to internationally recognized standards of ethical conduct of mental health research.

Purpose of the Position
To recruit research participants living with HIV into a trial of therapy for depression and poor adherence; To conduct baseline assessments; To provide a direct link between the study participant and the study; To provide patient-oriented care in a professional and respectful manner; To work closely with clinics and their nursing staff to provide optimal care for patients in the
recruitment sites

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
To carry out all study related procedures including screening patients, recruiting patients and follow up of patients; To complete case reporting forms and enter data into a database; To ensure that all procedures are done in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for clinical research; To be accessible to study participants and their families in order to address all study related concerns; Review and assess data collected and write reports

The research assistant should possess knowledge of mental health, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality have a background in research in community settings and/or health facilities, background in interviewing using detailed questionnaires about lifestyle and behaviour and a background in public health or mental health research would be an advantage.

We expect the following qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field; At least 3 years of research experience; Excellent English and report writing skills; Excellent computer skills as all evaluations will be completed electronically; Experience in research; Basic knowledge of the principles of the ethical conduct of research; Ability to work well with others and integrate into the public health care system; Awareness of the burden of depression in people living with HIV; Focused, energetic individual who believes in patient or participant oriented care, is compassionate about medicine and HIV, and the care of individuals with HIV.
