Harare:-Position Assistant Manager, Database Administrator
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Setting up and testing new database and data handing systems. • Assisting in database and system design. • Updating existing databases. • Monitoring database efficiency. • Sustaining the security and integrity of data on the selected database in use. • Creating complex query definitions that allow discovery of new trends in the data. • Training colleagues on how to input and extract data into and from the database. • Stratification of user access levels and monitoring user access and security of data. • Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to the stratified and approved front-end users. • Control data access permissions and privileges. • Manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database. • Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security. • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
Experience and Attributes • A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Management or appropriate ICT related qualification from a recognized university. • Must possess good skills in problem solving and project information systems management. • At least 3 years post qualification experience in designing, installation and management of relational databases. • Must have good knowledge and practice of programming languages, including Python, C++, R and Java. • Must have good understanding of structured query language (SQL). • Must have knowledge of 'relational database management systems' (RDBMS), object-oriented database management systems' (OODBMS) and XML database management systems. • Must have strong analytical and organizational skills. • Must have an eye for detail and accuracy. • Must have experience with database software/ web applications. • Must have the ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines. • Must be able to quickly adapt to changes in technology and apply this to the work-related environment.
