DISTRICT ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER (2 posts)- Environmental Management Agency (EMA)

Applications ore invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following posts that have arisen within the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) - an equal opportunity employer:
Reporting to the Provincial Environmental Manager, the job holder will be responsible for the district's administrative tasks, provi§on of enVronmenta I management and environmental protection services.
Duties and Responsibilities:-
I. Provision of environmental management services
> Building capacities of Local Authorities (both urban and rural) in environmental management through training of traditional leaders, RDC environment committees and sub committees and making sure that they are aware of their obligations as provided for by the statutes.
> Identifying business opportunities and initiatives at district level that contribute to EMA's financial sustainability.
> Training RDC and stakeholders in Local Environmental Action Planning (LEAP) process and together with RDC, preparing and implementing RDC LEAP.
> Spearheading the identification, planting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of community based erWronmental conservation projects in the district.
> Carrying out targeted environmental education and awareness programmes in the district.
> Conducting environmental resource inventories and asses§ing potential for conservation and management.
> Producing environmental plans in resettlement and communal areas to be used as bases for environmental management.
2. Provision of environmental protection services
> Env ronmental Compliance monitoring with Erwironmental Statutory Instruments.
> Ticketing, issuing orders and collecting of fees.
> Ensuring timeous issuance of environmental licences.
> Management of environmental quality issues.
> Controlling and monitoring environmental pollution.
> Managing water effluent and hazardous substances.
> Conducting EIA reviews and monitoring.
> Managing ecosystem issues that include veldt fires, wetland utilisation and sand abstraction.
3. Administration
> Management of the Agency's human, financial and material resources.
> Preparing district budgets and work plans.
> Managing assets at district level by maintaining an updated asset register.
• A minimum qualification of a first degree in Geography and Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources
Management or any other related degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
> At least one year working experience in an environmental related field.
> Sound knowledge of approaches and tools for sustainable environmental management.
