The primary function of the Nutrition Coordinator is to coordinate all Nutrition Strategic Objective activities on the Amalima program under the direction and supervision of the Country Director .The Nutrition Coordinator will work closely with MEAL Coordinator, WASH Coordinator, SBCC/Nutrition Advisor and SBC Communications Officer, and supervise the District Nutrition Officers. She/he will pay a strong coordination role with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) at Provincial level. S/he also contributes to the continuous review of the projects activities with a view to meet the anticipated project outcome. S/he will work closely with the team to document key learnings from programming.
Supervise program activities in four districts: Bulilima, Mangwe, Tsholotsho, and Gwanda; Ensure close coordination and linkages of the Nutrition Strategic Objective interventions with the livelihoods and agriculture activities; Carry out activities as per detailed implementation plan and ensuring a high standard of quality is maintained; Closely monitor the program budget to ensure activities are implemented within required budget and timeframe; Escalates in a timeous manner any issues of concern with regards to program budget or actual implementation of activities to the Country Director to ensure that project deliverables are met; Coordinate requests for inputs with logistics, technical and finance counterparts; Provides program oversight and management in implementation of the nutrition activities within districts and gives timely input to support Nutrition Officers; Verify program milestones and draft reports for donor and program management to facilitate program decision making and monitoring; Ability to train national staff on nutrition components (such as 1000 day approach, Nutrition Surveillance); Provide Support and mentorship to staff based in the 4 districts on nutrition components of the program; Ensures that s/he keeps abreast of the health and nutrition situations in the Districts and that Nutrition Officers are kept appraised of such issues (e.g. findings from the National Nutrition Survey); Demonstrate analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, develop timetables for agreed activities and oversee staff activities; Work closely with the MEAL Coordinator to ensure mainstreaming of WASH activities in the programs nutrition component; Supports Nutrition Officers to ensure they appreciate and hence adhere to required donor regulations /compliance in programme implementation; Write programmatic reports of a high standard in line with donor recommendations as well as any other reports as delegated by Country Director; Any other responsibilities /tasks as deemed necessary by the Country Director; Adherence to the requirements of the Community Based Feedback and Response Mechanisms guidelines & procedures. The employee will implement and take part in activities in line with the CBFRM guidelines.
Minimum Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Health Science or Public Health; Minimum five years of experience in working in a relief or development NGO; Good knowledge of information presentation techniques; Good knowledge of and experience with humanitarian guidelines and principles; Good report writing skills and experience; Ability to document key learnings and present findings logically; Sound understanding of budgeting and procurement planning; Ability to work effectively under pressure; Proficient in spoken and written English, and fluency in isiNdebele; The position requires availability and willingness to work outside regular office hours occasionally; Be able to work under pressure and meeting deadlines.
