Pediatric Care and Treatment Technical Officer: Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

Job Summary
To provide in-country technical support to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the national AIDS & TB programme, to improve the quality of life for children and families infected and affected by HIV in Zimbabwe. The incumbent will contribute to the strengthening of the continuum of care approaches with a specific focus on the new child friendly ARV formulations. The technical officer will report to and work closely with the EGPAF Country Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the EGPAF support to the MOHCC in the implementation and monitoring of pediatric HIV care and treatment strategy; Support the national scaling up of HIV nucleic acid testing at birth; Support the national scaling of neonatal HIV treatment in line with Zimbabwe’s HIV prevention, care and treatment guidelines including transitioning to appropriate LPV/r based regimens; Collaborate with the technical team in-country to ensure integration between PMTCT and care and treatment activities within a family centered continuum of care framework; Lead the review of pediatric HIV training materials, IEC materials and job aides to include new child friendly ARV formulations; Coordinate all EGPAF supported Pediatric OI/ART trainings; Provide post training support to clinicians, pharmacists and peer supporters; Support formation of third line ART committees at selected sites; Lead implementation of service quality improvement initiatives to improve quality of pediatric HIV prevention, care and treatment services; Lead the development of strategies to strengthen follow up and retention mechanisms for HIV infected neonates and infants; In collaboration with the EGPAF technical team, contribute to strengthening a standardised monitoring and evaluation system in support of pediatric HIV treatment and care services; Liaise with Logistics and other stakeholders to ensure continuous availability of pediatric HIV medicines and commodities at all levels of the pipeline; Contribute to the development of annual work plans, compiling reports, developing proposals and disseminating findings and best practices on pediatric HIV treatment and care; Serve as member of the national PMTCT partnership forum, national care and treatment partners forum, and other relevant fora including working groups or subcommittees in support of the Ministry of Health and Child Care AIDS and TB Unit; Work closely with the communications and advocacy officer, advocate for wider access to treatment and care for CLHA; Carry out any additional duties within reason as identified by the Country Manager.

A Medical Degree with 3-5 years’ experience in clinical management of opportunistic infections and ART in children; Sound training and experience in clinical management of HIV; MPH would be an added advantage; Valid registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Zimbabwe; Clean class 4 driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention care and treatment in Zimbabwe; Experience in working with the Ministry of Health and Child Care structures; NGO work experience; Computer literacy; Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to manage a team; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability and willingness to undertake frequent in-country travel
