DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
Applicants must possess:
i. A minimum of a Masters' Degree in Public Health, Environmental Science and or their equivalents.
ii. A minimum of five years experience in safety, health and environmental issues.
The Safety, Health and Environment Manager will have overall responsibility on the quality of the Universitys environment, in and outside buildings and around campus, in line with the National health and safety regulations, including those of the University of Zimbabwe, the City of Harare and global trends on green environments. In partnership with the Departments of Works and Estates and Central Services, the Safety, Health and Environment Manager will be expected to ensure that the environment is conducive for the advancement of the core business of the University.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Safety, Health and Environment Manager will be responsible for:
i. Identifying and sensitizing staff on the health and safety regulations applicable to the University.
ii. Assess and monitor laboratories, workshops and facilities to meet their accreditation and certification requirements.
iii. Recommending training of staff on health and safety issues in the University environment.
iv. Ensuring that the University environment meets the health standards for teaching and learning in and outside buildings and the general
v. Putting in place an internal self-regulatory and external quality assurance systems for health, safety and environmental issues for the
institution and, where possible, recommend corrective measures.
vi. Developing core modules for training on public health within the University.
vii. Compiling, analyzing and reporting, periodically, on the health index of the University.
viii. Linking up with student and staff health personnel to support good public health practices.
ix. Greening the University in line with global trends.
x. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
