International Rescue Committee is recruiting for 2 Water Quality Assistants for an emergency response program which will run for 3 months in Chimanimani. The Water Quality Assistant –will report to the Watsan Officer –and will be primarily responsible for supervising the water and sanitation infrastructure works as directed by the Watsan Officer. The main objective of this position is to support the Watsan Officer in managing safe water and sanitation provision. This includes construction and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure. The incumbent will ensure that the water and sanitation activities are implemented in a timely and professional manner and in line with beneficiary needs. Maintain close links and collaboration with other WASH team members and sectors and in particular Women Protection and Empowerment (WPE) and Economic Recovery and Development (ERD).

Key responsibilities
Technical Quality: Directly implement water quality monitoring of all water improvement works the IRC conducts in target locations including monitoring water quality at household level and when required will be expected to supporting other NGOs and the Ministry of Health Environmental Health Technicians in the target Wards; When required effectively treat failed water sources under the supervision of the Watsan Officer; Coordinate closely with the Watsan Assistants and Hygiene Promoter Assistant over water quality and beneficiary needs and preferences regarding water collection points; Provide weekly reports of progress water quality monitoring results to Watsan Officer as well as the Hygiene promotion Officer; Seek guidance and approval from Watsan Officer on any changes to approved water quality monitoring guide; Maintain comprehensive control systems on materials and tools used including notes on quality of materials.

Staff Supervision & Development: Assist the Watsan Officer identify issues with water quality at source level and suggest solutions to resolve any problems that may occur; Assist the Hygiene Promotion Officer with issues with drinking water quality at Household level and suggest solutions to resolve any problems that may occur; Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable work teams to successfully complete their tasks on time and within budget; Responsible for daily skilled and unskilled workers timesheets and work plans.

Other duties: Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of the team; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to the WASH Coordinator and liaising with community leaders and other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for IRC programs; Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.

Qualifications
Minimum Diploma or certificate in Laboratory Sciences, Environmental Health or related subject; Experience in implementation of water and sanitation projects; Competent communication skills, effective in representation and liaison; Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well; Knowledge of English; Competent user of MS Applications: Word, Excel or similar.
