International Rescue Committee is recruiting for two (2) Water and Sanitation Assistants for an emergency response program which will run for 3 months in Chimanimani. The Watsan Assistant will report to the Watsan Officer and will be primarily responsible for supervising the water and sanitation infrastructure works as directed by the Watsan Officer. The main objective of this position is to support the Watsan Officer in managing safe water and sanitation provision. This includes construction and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure. The incumbent will ensure that the water and sanitation activities are implemented in a timely and professional manner and in line with beneficiary needs. Maintain close links and collaboration with other WASH team members and sectors and in particular Women Protection and Empowerment (WPE) and Economic Recovery and Development (ERD).

Key Responsibilities
Technical Quality: Directly implement the construction works, including but may not be limited to erection of mass water storage tanks and connect of taps (collection points), trenching and pipe laying, construction of water wells and spring protection boxes in line with the approved water distribution design; Train and supervise daily skilled and unskilled workers; Coordinate closely with the Water treatment Assistants and Hygiene Promoter Assistant over water quality and beneficiary needs and preferences regarding water collection points; Provide weekly reports of progress on the construction of water and sanitation facilities to EH Officer-Water and Sanitation; Seek guidance and approval from Watsan Officer on any changes to approved designs for water supply; Maintain comprehensive control systems on materials and tools used including notes on quality of materials.

Staff Supervision & Development: Assist the Watsan Officer identify, train and support daily skilled and unskilled workers; Supervise daily skilled and unskilled workers; Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable work teams to successfully complete their tasks on time and within budget; Responsible for daily skilled and unskilled workers timesheets and work plans.

Monitoring: Maintain records of number and location of all water collection points; Routine O&M of water distribution system (s) and sanitation facilities including drainage around all water points and sanitation facilities.

Other duties: Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of the team; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to the EH Manager and liaising with community leaders and other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for IRC programs; Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.

Qualifications
Minimum Diploma or certificate in plumbing, construction or related subject; Experience in implementation of water and sanitation projects; Competent communication skills, effective in representation and liaison; Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well; Knowledge of English; Competent user of MS Applications: Word, Excel; ACAD or similar.
