Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent from a recognised university, four years of system administration, database and/or network administration, experience; thorough knowledge of Linux and Microsoft operating systems and security model, including Active Directory, System Server Administration and IT Certification in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus; working knowledge of virtualisation, VMW or equivalent; strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware and networking protocols; strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices; effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operations of computer systems, network servers, installing upgrades; maintaining the computer systems of the university, installing, maintaining and upgrading servers, ensuring server backups and that the server data is secure from unauthorised access performance or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery and fail over procedure.
